How do you calculate a salary increment? Multiply your current salary by (1 + increment % ÷ 100). A 5% increment on RM5,000 a month is RM250, for a new salary of RM5,250 a month. To find the percentage, subtract old pay from new pay, divide by old pay and multiply by 100.
How to calculate a increment
Increment % = (New salary − Old salary) ÷ Old salary × 100
New salary = Old salary × (1 + Increment % ÷ 100)
Worked example
Your monthly salary is RM5,000 and you get a 5% increment. Multiply RM5,000 by 1.05: your new monthly salary is RM5,250, which is RM250 more a month.
Going the other way, a monthly salary that rises from RM4,000 to RM4,200 is a 5% increment: (RM4,200 − RM4,000) ÷ RM4,000 × 100.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my increment percentage?
Subtract your old salary from your new salary, divide by the old salary and multiply by 100. A monthly salary that goes from RM4,000 to RM4,200 is a 5% increment.
How much is a 5% increment on RM5,000?
A 5% increment on RM5,000 a month is RM250, so your new monthly salary is RM5,250. That is RM3,000 more a year before deductions.

Aon projects an average salary increase of 4.8% for Malaysia in 2026, the same as the 4.8% given in 2025.
