How do you calculate a salary increase? Multiply your current salary by (1 + increase % ÷ 100). A 5% increase on R30,000 a month is R1,500, for a new salary of R31,500 a month. To find the percentage, subtract old pay from new pay, divide by old pay and multiply by 100.
How to calculate a salary increase
Salary increase % = (New salary − Old salary) ÷ Old salary × 100
New salary = Old salary × (1 + Salary increase % ÷ 100)
Worked example
Your monthly salary is R30,000 and you get a 5% salary increase. Multiply R30,000 by 1.05: your new monthly salary is R31,500, which is R1,500 more a month.
Going the other way, a monthly salary that rises from R20,000 to R21,200 is a 6% salary increase: (R21,200 − R20,000) ÷ R20,000 × 100.
