How do you work out a pay rise? Multiply your current salary by (1 + pay rise % ÷ 100). A 3.5% pay rise on A$90,000 is A$3,150, for a new salary of A$93,150. To find the percentage, subtract old pay from new pay, divide by old pay and multiply by 100.
How to calculate a pay rise
Pay rise % = (New salary − Old salary) ÷ Old salary × 100
New salary = Old salary × (1 + Pay rise % ÷ 100)
Worked example
Your annual salary is A$90,000 and you get a 3.5% pay rise. Multiply A$90,000 by 1.035: your new annual salary is A$93,150, which is A$3,150 more a year or A$262 a month.
Going the other way, a annual salary that rises from A$100,000 to A$104,000 is a 4% pay rise: (A$104,000 − A$100,000) ÷ A$100,000 × 100.

Pay rise and take-home pay in Australia
The calculator shows gross salary. PAYG income tax and the Medicare levy come out of your pay, so your take-home pay rises by less than the headline percentage. Your employer also pays superannuation guarantee of 12% on top of ordinary time earnings, so a pay rise lifts your super as well.
